“You got peanut butter in my chocolate.” That was part of a catchphrase for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups from an iconic TV commercial that aired back in the 1970s. But now, decades later, Reese’s is giving that phrase a whole new meaning.

The brand has launched a limited-time-only “Reese’s Deconstructed Peanut Butter Cup” customizable kit featuring a large (nine-ounce) chocolate cup without the peanut butter, and a 10-ounce jar of peanut butter without the cup so you can put the precise amount of peanut butter you want in your chocolate.

“We know how personal your ideal chocolate to peanut butter ratio is. So, go ahead, amp up the peanut butter or tone it down – we won’t judge,” Reese’s said in an email announcing the new kit. “You’re welcome.”

Hershey’s, the brand’s parent, dropped the kits online on November 4 — National Candy Day. Priced at $29.99, they were available only “while supplies last” and that turned out to be not very long. The product page says they “sold out in record time.

The rush of interest in the kits is probably not too surprising, but the good news is that the brand is heavily hinting it will bring the kit back “sooner rather than later.” You can sign up here for an email list to be alerted when (or if?) the kits are restocked and available.

The kits were inspired by a post on the “mildly interesting” subReddit, in which the Redditor shared a photo of a five-pack of Reese’s cups that had no peanut butter in them. Hilariously, each of the cups seems to have one bite taken out of it, as if to verify that it, too, was empty. A lesson in hope’s endurance, for sure.

The post went viral, collecting than 101,000 upvotes and 4,100 comments thus far.

Reese’s has dubbed the Redditor’s experience “everyone’s nightmare.”

“Every Reese’s cup is crafted to perfection, but even perfection can have an off day,” it said.

Responding to the viral Reddit post, one commenter noted, “I can sense the desperation growing with every bite in this picture.”

“Maybe this time…d'oh … Surely this one…d’oh,” one Simpsons fan quipped.

“PeaNOT butter cups,” another called them.

The Redditor said Reese’s had promised her coupons for her troubles. Given the mileage they’re getting out of her post, here’s hoping they also send her one of these kits.
