The holidays have officially arrived at Starbucks. Sure, you’ve been sipping the chain’s wintry beverages for a week now, but the season isn’t in full swing until those red holiday cups appear.
Starting November 14, you’ll receive a free reusable red cup when you order a seasonal handcrafted beverage in any size. Qualifying drinks include hot chocolates, pumpkin spice lattes (naturally) and the chain’s first-ever iced holiday refresher. The giveaway applies to orders placed in store, at the drive-thru, on the Starbucks app and for delivery through DoorDash, Uber Eats or GrubHub.
This marks the seventh year of Starbucks’ reusable cup program. Starbucks aims to cut its water and carbon footprint in half by 2030, and its conspicuous use of single-use plastics is a key problem to tackle. By embracing reusable cups and producing new disposable cups with less plastic, the company is aiming to eliminate millions of pounds of waste.
Customers who bring in a reusable cup, including this year’s holiday ones, will save $0.10 on each order and 25 Starbucks Rewards stars. This batch of red cups is also made from 95 percent recycled materials. These incentives aren’t new, but the use of personal cups was put on hold in 2020 due to health and safety concerns.
Earlier this month, Starbucks also stopped charging customers extra for non-dairy milks. The move could encourage customers to choose plant-based milks with the planet in mind.
