Whether it’s the treasured final days of summer vacation for your family or your kids have already headed back in class, back-to-school season is clearly underway.

Wendy’s is easing the pain or helping you celebrate — depending on your perspective — the start of the school year with a free kids’ meal deal that should, at the very least, defray the cost of all those back-to-school supplies. (Those colorful folders and No. 2 pencils won’t buy themselves.)

The deal, which was introduced on August 12 and will continue through September 2, offers fast-food-fan families a free Wendy’s Kids Meal with the purchase of a premium combo meal when they use a digital offer on the Wendy’s app.

The Wendy’s Kids’ Meals give your kid a choice of either a four-piece portion of chicken nuggets, a beef hamburger or a cheeseburger. Kids can also select between a side of Jr. Hot & Crispy Fries or Apple Bites. They’ll also get a kid’s drink.

Also, for a limited time, kids who order Wendy’s Kids’ Meal will also receive an Art Time Machine toy that features one of five different arts and crafts kits. Each collectible kit spotlights an art tradition, such as prehistoric cave paintings, Egyptian hieroglyphics, Renaissance invention, abstract landscape paintings and pop art.

The free kids’ meal deal — which, again, is something you get with the purchase of a premium combo meal, which consists of a premium sandwich, a side and a beverage — is available for mobile or in-restaurant orders at participating U.S. Wendy’s and must be redeemed via the Wendy’s App. While the offer is limited to one free kids’ meal per customer per visit, you can claim the deal unlimited times on different visits during the offer period.

Oh, and deal-minded Wendy’s customers won’t want to forget dessert. The chain is offering a special price on a small chocolate or triple berry Frosty — $1 — through September 15, with no limit to how many you can buy. (The only limit is how many you can eat.)

Wendy’s isn’t the only fast-food chain helping families save for school-supply-shopping season. Burger King also announced that it would offer a back-to-school free kids’ meal promotion: Through August 25, a King Jr. Meal is free with a $10 purchase for all Burger King reward members.
