Whatever your go-to Starbucks order is, getting your beverage of choice with a non-dairy milk (soy, oat, almond or coconut) has always meant paying extra. That’s been a bummer for people who, for whatever reason, don’t drink dairy. Now, though, Starbucks is dropping big, exciting news for non-dairy milk drinkers among us.
Starting on November 7, when Starbucks launches its holiday menu, it will stop charging you extra for ordering your drink with non-dairy milk. The move will affect all company-owned and operated Starbucks locations in the U.S. and Canada — and it is not a limited time deal. It’s ongoing.
The change is part of a move by the new chairman and CEO, Brian Niccol, to speed up the ordering process. To alleviate some of the workload for harried Starbucks baristas and get customers their orders in four minutes or less, brewed coffee will now be delivered at the register and customers will be able to add their own milk and sweeteners at condiment stations that Starbucks is putting back into stores, The New York Times reports.
Starbucks says it will also ease beverage order personalization. “Core to the Starbucks Experience is the ability to customize your beverage to make it yours. By removing the extra charge for non-dairy milks we’re embracing all the ways our customers enjoy their Starbucks,” Niccol says in a statement.
Ordering your drink with a non-dairy milk is among the most requested beverage customizations at Starbucks, second only to adding an extra shot of espresso. The company says nearly half of U.S. Starbucks customers who currently pay for beverage customizations will see their drink price go down more than 10 percent.
Starbucks also says it will also not increase prices overall for the 2025 fiscal year.
