If you’re making travel plans for next year, you’d better add a stop to your list. Fresh from winning four medals at the Paris Olympics this summer, superstar gymnast Simone Biles is working on her next move. Only this time, it’s in the restaurant business.
Biles is opening a Tex-Mex restaurant called Taste of Gold inside Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). The restaurant will be located in Terminal A and is set to open in the first quarter of 2025, according to a press release from the airport. Biles is partnering with The Playmakers Group, which owns two other athlete-themed airport restaurants in Texas, to open the restaurant.
While a gymnast opening a restaurant may seem a little strange, the venture is a natural fit for Biles. She’s a vocal food lover and especially fond of her hometown’s culinary scene.
Biles’ first meal after returning home from the Paris Olympics was takeout from Stick Talk Cajun-Hibachi, a fusion restaurant she said “never misses.” Stick Talk’s owner told the Houston Chronicle that Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens ordered chicken fried rice with spicy garlic butter and a side of noodles.
“I am a foodie at heart, and our hope with Taste of Gold is to offer a beautiful dining experience that features award-winning, signature menu items with some of my favorite flavors sprinkled in for our guests,” Biles said in the airport’s press release.
An IAH representative told Food Network that menu items will be announced in the coming months.
Taste of Gold’s location in the airport means that it will reach an audience far beyond Houston locals. Potentially millions of travelers from around the world will get a chance to dine there — IAH received over 46 million passengers in 2023.
So, the next time you’re passing through Terminal A, Taste of Gold might just spice up your layover.
