Oreo O’s Are Getting Replaced by a New Cookie-Themed Cereal
Don’t worry, it’s still Oreo flavored.

In a world gone mad with mashups and collaborations, the old “candy… for breakfast?!” cereal advertising campaigns of the 1990s seem almost quaint. One of the most iconic of these crossovers was and is Oreo O’s, the ring-shaped cereal that offers a taste of beloved sandwich cookie by the bowlful.
Oreo O’s first hit the cereal aisle in 1997 and remained there for ten years before being discontinued. A decade later, a wave of savvy, ’90s nostalgia marketing across multiple industries saw the product brought back to life in 2017 and it has remained available ever since. But sadly for diehard Oreo O’s fans, this childhood classic will be disappearing from store shelves once again starting this week.
In its place, however, cereal giant Post Consumer Brands is releasing a new cookies-and-creme cereal that still bears the Oreo name: Oreo Puffs. One key difference fans of the previous cereal will notice is that the rings have been swapped for crunchy spheres, though these chocolatey bits are, according to the box, made with actual Oreo wafers.
Another change is the addition of mini marshmallow pieces, which will be familiar to anyone who enjoyed 2001’s “Extreme Créme” iteration of Oreo O’s (later renamed “Mega Stuf” upon re-release in 2019), which also featured marshmallows to mimic the creme in the cookie products.

A representative for Post confirmed that Oreo Puffs will begin taking over Oreo O’s place on store shelves nationwide immediately and permanently. “For those who love dunking their Oreo cookies in milk, Oreo Puffs cereal is a brand new, delicious way to enjoy the taste of the iconic Oreo cookie — during breakfast time!,” TD Dixon, Chief Growth Officer at Post Consumer Brands told Food Network. “A mouthwatering combination made with real Oreo cookie wafers and marshmallows, Oreo Puffs is a permanent addition to store shelves that will replace Oreo O’s in the cereal aisle. As for Oreo O’s cereal, who knows what the future will hold!”
And given that Oreo O’s have already made one nostalgia-driven comeback, we wouldn’t be surprised if this iconic cookie cereal isn’t necessarily gone forever.
