This simple baked pork chops recipe comes together quickly and entails minimal cleanup—perfect for a weeknight meal. Here, Food Network Kitchen’s recipe developers share their tips for juicy pork chops that are on the table in 40 minutes.

How to Cook Pork Chops in the Oven Like a Pro

Everything you need to know, from our test kitchen to your dinner table.

Customize the breading. Our recipe developers love the way that panko stays crispy while frying, though you can use other breadcrumbs if you prefer. You can also change up the seasonings: swap in a peppercorn mix, the herb and spice blend of your choice (just check the label to make sure there isn’t added sodium) or even pumpkin pie spice. Or try adding finely chopped fresh herbs like parsley, tarragon and dill along with grated fresh lemon zest. To cut down on prep time, combine Parmesan, panko and dried seasonings in a zip-top plastic bag and store in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to cook, just add the vegetable oil and shake.

A wire rack helps bone-in pork chops cook evenly. Baking pork chops above— rather than in direct contact with—your sheet pan helps hot air circulate around them, so they cook perfectly every time.

Use an instant-read thermometer to check for doneness. Wondering how long to bake pork chops in the oven? Our recipe developers find that 15 to 20 minutes is a good guideline, but the exact timing will vary based on the size and thickness of your chops and temperature fluctuations in your oven. That’s why we use an instant-read thermometer to check for doneness. Insert it into the thickest part of the chop not touching the bone, and look for an internal pork chop temperature of 145 degrees F.

These simple oven baked pork chops are coated in a seasoned breadcrumb mixture that isn’t a big mess to prep – perfect for a weeknight dinner. Look for Japanese panko breadcrumbs which are coarse and crunchy. This recipe calls for Italian seasoning but feel empowered to change up the flavor with an herb and spice blend of your choice (just check the label to make sure there isn’t added sodium): a peppercorn mix, or even pumpkin pie spice would work nicely. Or try adding finely chopped fresh herbs like parsley, tarragon and dill to the breading along with fresh lemon zest. You can even make the seasoned breadcrumbs ahead of time and store it in a plastic resealable bag in the freezer – just add the oil and then shake and bake your pork chops.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Combine the panko, oil, Parmesan, Italian seasoning and 3/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper in a large resealable plastic bag. Put the pork chops in a large bowl and toss to coat with 1 tablespoon water. Place the pork chops in the bag and shake well to coat, pressing the breadcrumb mixture firmly into the meat.
  3. Place the pork chops on a wire rack set on a baking sheet and top evenly with any breadcrumbs remaining in the bag. Bake until the breadcrumbs are dark golden and the internal temperature of the chops registers 145 degrees F on an instant-read thermometer (avoid touching bone), 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately with lemon wedges if using.
